Historic house: Having welcomed travellers through its doors for centuries, The Inn at Grasmere is as historic and traditional as they come. Don’t, however, take that to mean this hotel is antiquated; it’s moved with the times whilst retaining its old-world intrigue. The rooms and suites are richly furnished and tastefully decorated, and many also boast sprawling views of the beautiful landscapes beyond.
-
Gourmet dining: All your dining and drinking fantasies will no doubt be satiated at the 1769 Bar & Restaurant, just next to the hotel. Besides plenty of locally-brewed real ales, this authentic pub is made all the more memorable by its enticing food offerings, which place a great focus on locally-sourced and sustainable produce. The Courtyard is also on hand with an Italian-inspired menu; feast on sourdough pizzas after a day of romping through the hills.
-
The great outdoors: You’re going to want to pack your hiking boots or mountain bike, because you’re staying in the wild heart of the Lake District. Walk the three and a half miles around Grasmere Lake, or if you’re after something more challenging, then Loughrigg Fell offers six and a half miles of panoramic views across the southern half of the National Park. When you’re back at the hotel you can relax in the sauna, or swim some gentle lengths of the heated indoor pool.
How to get there
The Inn at Grasmere sits within the village of Grasmere in Cumbria. It’s just off the A591, and if you’re arriving by car there are plenty of parking facilities at no extra cost, as well as electric vehicle charging stations.

Grasmere
Home to William and Dorothy Wordsworth for some 14 years, Grasmere was immortalised by the great writer’s words when he called it ‘the loveliest spot that man hath ever found’. Indeed, the sleepy country village is surrounded by the rolling green hills of the Lake District, with the eponymous lake just a short walk away. A bit further afield you have Lake Windermere and Scafell Pike, the largest lake and highest mountain in England respectively. For an afternoon at a more gentle pace, a visit to Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top cottage is a lovely way to spend an afternoon, as is a wander around Levens Hall and the Topiary Gardens there.
