Rural respite: Coddled by 11 acres of landscaped grounds, paddocks, and woodland, The Moorland Hotel is a rural sanctuary of utter relaxation. Not only is it the picture of countryside perfection - think wild horses grazing on tallgrass, and cattle roaming from field to field - but the hotel has an illustrious guest list: the likes of Agatha Christie, Sir Tommy Flowers, and Ava Gardner have stayed here in the past.
-
British gastronomic flair: As is often the way, the heart of the hotel is its restaurant. Tin Pickle and Rhum is a warm and cosy space replete with a wood-burning fire and a fully stocked bar. À la carte breakfast is served each day, while a generous lunch and dinner menu are on offer later: what could be better after a day on the moors than sharing a baked camembert and digging into a traditional pub classic? The open-plan Conservatory Restaurant is another idyllic spot to relax, thanks to the surrounding views and elevated cuisine.
-
Linger a little while: Lovingly decorated and furnished with smooth linen and sumptuous beds, guest rooms are a haven of slumber. Retire from a day reconnecting with nature and enjoy the simplicity of your Classic Double room, or opt for a Superior Double room for an added touch of luxury.
How to get there
Sitting in Dartmoor National Park, the Moorland is a 35-minute drive from Exeter. Torquay is a 45-minute drive south, while London is just over four hours’ drive. Newton Abbot is the best station to head for; it’s a little over 20 minutes’ drive away.
Good to know
Please note that breakfast is served from Monday until Sunday from 7:30am until 10am.
Please note that for guests bringing their pets that dogs are welcome in the TinPickle restaurant, however they are not permitted to enter the Conservatory Restaurant and must be left in your room. Thanks to the vast grounds of the hotel, your pooch has plenty of space to roam around.
